Today’s trip gets mixed reviews, two thirds motoring and one third sailing. It started out with a transit of the Pungo Canal – an exotic name for something in North Carolina, fun to say too. The last 2 hours was a nice sail with just the jib and winds of 20 knots. I’ve been trying to figure out how to describe what motoring though the Pungo canal  is like, and here is the best I can do.

Imagine 20 miles of the dullest, straightest road you have ever been on. Now drive that road at six miles an hour in the summer on a lawnmower. A lawnmower because it keeps you at 6 mph and because it doesn’t have an air conditioner either. You’ll think the trip will never end.

We are anchored close to a straight shoreline which blocks the wind from where it’s blowing now. I just hope the wind doesn’t shift as there is no protection from the wind if it shifts.

Last night I commented about how out of the way our anchorage was – so out of the way that I decided to shower on deck. About 10 minutes after I was done three girls on a jet ski went by. I have no idea where they came from or where they went, but it was a lesson learned.

Tomorrow we should be in Elizabeth City, NC.
