Cawsands Bay, Plymouth

Well anchoring off Mylor wasn’t quite as calm as we’d hoped ~ around 0200 there were waves coming in the entrance, working their way directly towards us to go SLAP loudly on our stern! Luckily it was a short night with the alarm set for 0500 so we were up and away as a beautiful sunrise lit St Mawes and Falmouth.

Leaving the harbour we were surprised to find ourselves looking at the red and green navigation lights of the most enormous cruise ship. We were incredulous that such a huge ship could enter the harbour, fortunately the AIS then showed she had stopped and we spotted anchors being released.

We had hoped to be in the River Yealm this evening, it would have been OK to enter at high water, but not leaving in the morning at low water. Instead we have come to Plymouth and are anchored in a beautiful spot just inside the entrance, it’s busy with rowers, swimmers, divers, and this evening the RNLI lifeboat is training in the bay.

We had some beautiful Dolphin visits today, huge creatures right beside the boat, such a treat (we think they were Common Dolphins). We also sailed past several flocks of Gannets fishing, so impressive to see them diving from a great height.

Working our way back towards the Solent, not long now!
