Kilmore Quay day ashore

Whilst writing last night’s blog, we could hear the gentle sounds of superb guitar playing. After pressing send, we walked up to see who was creating such beautiful music on this quiet night. What a treat to find a chap (we think he must be ex-pro he was so good) saying he’d thought he’d come down to float some music over the harbour.

A handful of people were listening so we sat down nearby. He asked us what we’d like to hear……… help ….. blank mind …. so he offered to play one of our favourite Dire Straits tunes. So we had this most magical moment of hearing “Why Worry” so perfectly it was as if Mark Knopfler was playing it just to us. With the still calm harbour and half-moon hanging in the sky above him, the scene was absolute perfection. We clearly loved it so he offered one more before saying he ‘may’ return tonight ~ we’re waiting with fingers crossed he does. Transpires he now plays as palliative care around the country and knows the Mountbatten Hospice on the IOW; what a star.

Back to sailing. Zero wind was forecast and we woke to howling in the rigging! We’d slept late after yesterday’s very early start so there was no way of going anywhere. Fortunately we like Kilmore Quay so we have had a useful day in port.

There is a huge empty sandy beach backed by sand dunes where we had a walk this afternoon, it was temping to swim but the sea was chokka with jelly fish so we settled for a paddle.

The boat alongside has gone out for a sunset cruise, so we took the opportunity to turn TC around using ropes, Bol’s preferred way to turn the boat around without using the engine. We are now facing outwards from the finger pontoon ready to leave, probably Saturday, as tomorrow looks light too, that’s if we believe Windy.com…
