Crinan II
056:05.444 N Crinan II The weather bulletins on VHF Channel 16 have shifted from Belfast Coastguard to Stornoway Coastguard, feels like we’ve definitely progressed north. We saw Lutetia and Scuima heading out of the Crinan Basin today and disappearing into the mist, who knows whether our paths will cross again on this trip. Lovely walk ashore this afternoon, before during and after rain showers. The Crinan Canal has 15 locks and 7 bridges along its 9 miles, its concept began in 1771. A feat of engineering that received Royal approval with Queen Victoria passing through the canal in 1847. It is fascinating to walk along, the two locks this end straight away raise boats much higher than the sea loch alongside, once we got some height, it was possible to see the canal winding its way up the Glen. The Woodland Trust manage much of the surrounding area and has created beautiful walks through the forest, despite the rain, the views were stunning and birdsong filled the air. We are so impressed with our two solar panels ~ with little or no sunshine recently, they have managed to keep our batteries fully charged. A quiet night at anchor and moving on tomorrow. |
