Tobermory IV

Well the wind and rain came in which is always a relief when you have committed to remaining in port. A pretty wet and wild day with the pontoon rocking in the swell, Tobermory is however pretty sheltered so we didn’t feel it too badly.

We’re luxuriating in having a blow heater on board which is hugely appreciated. We don’t normally plug into the pontoon electrics as we haven’t really needed to and the solar panels keep our batteries fully charged. However, with three of us bringing wet clothes back onto TC each time anyone goes ashore, and not enough sunshine to keep the solar at 100%, we’ve plugged in along with the rest of the boats on the pontoon ~ it’s wonderful to have dry kit.

Just sharing below a couple of photos from our Whisky tour a few days ago. It was fascinating to see inside the distillery and these two photos were not included before. These vast casks are where the yeast is introduced to the barley/water mix, they are about 10ft across and one storey high. Next door were four beautifully crafted copper stills where at least two distillations occur, in that time the liquid goes from 10% to 28% to over 40%. From there they go to the wooden casks downstairs for anything from 3 to up to 54 years. We all really enjoyed the tour, might even do another one on another island if we can!

More walks ashore in between showers. Forecast is looking promising tomorrow, so we aim to leave for Mallaig in the morning. We’ll pass the islands of Muck, Eigg and Rum and then a big moment of the trip, we’ll pass the Arndnamurchan Point which holds the title of the most westerly point of the British mainland.
