Arklow

We've been feeling rather discombobulated since getting up at 0330. However, the timing was good as by the time we nosed our way out of Dun Laoghaire Marina and into Dublin Bay, the dawn was breaking enough for us to spot the unlit racing marks dotted along our exit route. By 0515 when the sun rose, we were well on our way.

Sadly, again, the wind just wasn't enough to push TC through the lumpy sea (sailors are never happy are they) so we motored down the coast to Arklow.

By late morning it was low tide so we crept up the River Arklow with 5cm under the keel at one stage. The Harbour Master conveniently was on the quayside having a cigarette so he waved us in. We weren't expecting there to be enough room in the tiny marina, but our luck was in with one local yacht away cruising, so we've slotted into his spot. Lines were kindly caught by the Harbour Master who duly welcomed us to the town.

‘Fat Freddie’ (Bol's huge bright pink up-cycled fender he found on the beach in Islay last week) was put to use soon after our arrival; the neighbouring boat was leaving and said he'd appreciate our assistance when he reversed out, “otherwise” he said, “I might hit you”, at least he was honest. No dramas but we were definitely glad we were present.... In his defence, it is a very tight marina.

The highlight of a walk into town was stumbling upon the 'Riverwalk' that enabled us to escape busy dusty downtown. There was plenty of hustle and bustle but we were a bit too cross eyed to do any perusing.  Huge success on the riverside walk however, our first ripe blackberries.

Another similarly early start tomorrow which should take us around the corner to the south coast of Ireland.
