Clachan Bridge, Seil Island

It’s all or nothing here, wind and rain yesterday, this morning a calm, sunny, glassy Loch and the place to ourselves.

Lovely walk ashore through lush woodland to the Clachan Bridge, also known as the Bridge over the Atlantic. This 230 year old hump-backed bridge spans the Clachan Sound, and links the west coast of the Scotland to the Island of Seil; it is so-called as the Clachan Sound indirectly leads to the Atlantic Ocean. It certainly has a beautiful river flowing under it and prolific bird life all around.

We’re certainly learning a lot of Scottish history; Tigh an Truish Inn marks the spot where, after the Jacobite rising of 1745, islanders changed from their trousers into the forbidden kilt when returning to the island!

How appropriate should it be that we stumble upon “Bunty’s Seat” dedicated to Bunty MacLean of Achnahullin, clearly another very special Bunty. We sat and admired the view across the water to the south of Mull.

Back on board testing out our newly installed diesel heater to dry our kit before heading off in the morning.
