August 2011 I
arrived back in Sardinia with Simon, Tracey, Maisie and Edward my new crew,
after visiting my daughter and husband not to mention my first grandchild in
Sheffield. We studied the Grib files and decided to leave Sardinia on
Monday 1st August so that we would have a favourable winds, heading
for Menorca 160nm to the west. As it turned out all went to plan and we had
slight head winds for 14 hours and then a whole 24 hours with a 20 knot wind from
behind. Later on the wind went around to the south as the Gribs predicted
giving us a beam reach for 14 hours into Mahon. It was one of the best
sails I have had since leaving Australia. We even had a fantastic Porpoise
experience. More of that later. So
I bet you would like to see some pictures of my Grandson and family.
Joanne
and Oscar and Dan buying Oscar’s new quad bike. A
proud Grandfather and Grandmother. Becky
and my dad who is a great grandfather. We did see Oscar with his eyes
open sometimes. The
family!!!! And
now the Thrift’s en-route from Sardinia to Menorca. Simon
and Tracey with Maisie and Edward in Cagliari. These are my new crew for
a couple of weeks. The
crew at their best. They are good at relaxing!!!!! We
sailed to a bay at the south of Sardinia before heading off to Menorca. I
spent some time at the top of the mast repairing the wind sensor. The
anchorage here was great. They even had a beach bar that did food in the
evening. Maisie
and Simon swinging from the yard arm. We set off just after this as described
earlier. En-route
in good weather, with Maisie spotting Porpoises. Our
first sighting of Menorca at just after daybreak. It had been a great 3 day
sail. It
had been the Thrift’s first time out of sight of land and also there
first night sail. They all coped very well with none of them getting sea
sick despite the rolling sea’s. We were all glad to drop anchor in Mahon
harbour at 8am in the morning. More info later. Pete. |
