22nd May Fai Tira in
Moorea 17:29.92S 149:49.12W This is a
personal account of Pete’s experiences over the last couple of days. John and J were
doing off cycling around the Island. John is writing
an account of their adventures. Views of this beautiful
anchorage at Cooks Bay in Moorea. Wednesday
morning saw most of the fleet at the briefing for the Cook Islands and Tonga. Whilst at the
briefing a plan was hatched to go diving at the other side of the Island. Brian offered to
take us on Miss Tippy. Brian and the “girls”
on Miss Tippy on the way out to the dive site. Left to right
Chrisy, Sheila and Derry. Marks there as well. I haven’t got
any diving photo’s at the moment, but as soon as I get them from Paul I
will upload them. A bit about the
dive. The dive site
was supposed to be good for seeing large Gray and Lemon sharks. Unfortunately
we only saw a couple of small Black Tips. To be honest it
was the most disappointing dive we have had. The only highlight for me
was an encounter with a Turtle. It came right up
to me and looked me in the eye. It floated just inches away from my face whilst
I stroked it under its head. After that it
followed me for about five minutes. A fantastic experience. We got back on
Miss Tippy and headed back as the sun was setting. Sheila brought
out some food and Brian opened the Bar and the party began. We were all
dancing and singing on the deck. The Tippy’s are fantastic hosts. We had to get
back in time for an organised BBQ and party at the hotel opposite the
anchorage. Two parties in
one day!!! I must remind you this is primarily an adventure and not a
holiday. Hans, Monica and
Maria with the dancers, and me playing with the band. Me with the
dancers and all the girls dressed up in there sarongs. The girls had
been to a sarong tying lesson that afternoon. Ian and Glenda
and David and Susan enjoying themselves. Bill and Sue
with Paul looking strained. John having a
good time as Jeremy and Maria lead the dancing which carried on into the small
hours. Fai Tira was
still there the next morning. Thursday saw 15
of us zooming around the island on 8 scooters. The film Easy
Rider came to mind. I had Ami as my pillion
rider but was closely followed by her mum and dad, Paul and Derry. They kept a
close eye on us. I couldn’t get away. We followed Bill
and Sue up to the view point where we could see the fleet in the distance in
Cooks Bay. At this point it
was not raining!!!!!!! Ami was taking
the pictures whilst I concentrated at not crashing into anything. As you can see
it is raining now. We stopped for
lunch at a Tiki village and was treated to a “mini” show. This comprised
of Dancing, Singing and Sarong tying demonstration, we were the only ones
there. It was a great
find with lovely food but whilst we were there the heavens opened and it didn’t
stop raining for the rest of the day. We turned our
scooters into trial bikes and headed up a foot path to a waterfall. We didn’t
make it as the track was blocked by a fallen tree. So we abandoned
our bikes and walked about half a mile before the rain drove us back to our
bikes. The number plate
on our bike. I didn’t know if it referred to Ami or me!!!!!! “a lover
for rent” We all returned
to the anchorage looking like drowned rats. No picture unfortunately. Last night was
Peter’s 60th birthday. Yet another party with games and
dancing. Here he is with
Marg his devoted wife. Pete and Marg
are off Peregrina and are one of our lovely American contingent. That’s all
for now folks. We set off for the rest of the Society Islands later today
and then onwards to the Cook Islands. More to come
later. Pete. |
