Pete and Baz complete a circumnavigation Gibraltar.

24th August 2011

We decided to get the bikes out and service them before we attempted this mammoth task of circumnavigation.  After all Gibraltar is five miles long and half a mile wide.  We didn’t get off to a good start as the first hill we came to Baz’s chain broke on John’s bike.  Luckily we had only just passed a bike shop so we got it mended along with the gears.

Here we are cycling along the main runway in Gibraltar.  Baz is about to die as we ride up the hill inside the Dudley Ward tunnel.

We were heading for Europa Point.

Europa Point was the starting point for the rally back on the 26th October 2009.  It has changed somewhat since then being pedestrianised now.

We saw our first Gilbraltan Ape there.

Wearing a Harley Davidson jacket!!!!!

We carried on further round past the beaches and onto the hundred ton gun.

It appears that most of the roads we were cycling along were one way – the other way. Cycling the wrong way down single track tunnels with no lights is certainly one way to spice a bike ride. Things are never boring when you go out with Pete! Says Baz!!

Never fired in anger this massive gun was built in the late 1800’s

Then off to the Botanic gardens to find our second Geo Cache

Inside was a little panda who’s ambition was to travel the world on a boat.  It started its journey in Plymouth one month ago and looks like it will be going back to Dartmouth.  Life’s tough for a Geo Cache panda.

Time for a we earned beer and food so we headed for the town and the nearest pub.

The London Pride was a great change to that of the lager type beers I have been drinking for the last 2 years.

On the way back to Fai Tira, we had to stop at the Gibraltar Arms and the Lord Nelson pubs to check that the imported real English beer was up to standard. (It was!)
