12th September Still in Port
Douglas 16:29.08S 145:27.36E As we left Port Douglas the
other night I was amazed by the sight of literally thousands of Fruit Bats heading
off for the rain forest at dusk. It was too dark to capture with the
camera so we headed back to the roosting site the next morning and found one of
the many Bat Trees that act as their home during day light hours. The Bat Tree Then low and behold we got back
to Geoff’s and Linnea’s house and were surprised to see another Bat
Tree. Bat Tree (he he) Friday night saw us heading to
the Central Hotel for early evening drinks and a meal. Here we are with John and Dee
who are now staying back on Fai Tira. The next day we went flying
again. I can’t get enough!! Here’s Geoff on his
microlight The Pilots Glory a rainbow
around the shadow of the trike in the cloud. Thornton’s Mountain.
Not made of toffee.
More mountain shots. The stunning Bloomfield river. Cape Tribulation in the distance
our lunch time landing beach in the foreground. A Mrs Mack pie on the beach for
lunch. I found a local fig leaf. Geoff just checking out the
weather on the computer before we headed home. Wow what a fantastic airfield. Take off down the deserted beach. Snapper Island just off of Cape Tribulation. A local tree frog on Geoff’s
airfield. The next day Geoff and I went
walking along the local stream where we saw loads of wild life. Geoff and Linnea’s house
from above. The Atherton Tablelands. The airfield at Port Douglas. Wavedancer at the Low Islands.
This is the catamaran Geoff sails there most days. We are heading for the
Low Islands tomorrow. Geoff and I went diving today and
encountered sharks. We also saw a herd of Double Headed
Parrot fish. A giant clam about two feet
across, Silversonic the dive boat we
went out on today. Linnea and Dee enjoying a drink
at tonight’s BBQ. The fire ready to cook the snags
(Australian for Sausage) on. A big thank you to Geoff and Linnea
for entertaining and looking after me over the last week. I have had a
ball. More Later. |
