Fai Tira leaves
for Aegina 37:44.75N 23:25.71E 01st
July 2011 Woke and set off
early at 6.30am as we had read in the pilot book that our next island, Aegina,
due to its proximity to Athens, can be exceptionally busy and the quay/marina
is usually full Thurs to Sundays. We took the chance with an early
start. Flat calm passage, again very hot. We passed a number
of ferries and ships that were entering and exiting the separation lane just
south of Athens. Some of these jet
powered boats created a huge bow wave as you can see. We arrived into the
harbour, unfortunately a boat following us then decided to put on speed, cut
corners and stole our possible mooring. However, we circled and shouted
to an English couple in a motor cruiser who confirmed space available. We
dropped anchor reversed into the spot, lines were tied and we were settled for
the night. Just as we finished
tying up the fuel bowser stopped by, we filled the empty fuel cans, started to
fill the tank when the bowser ran out of fuel. I needed to purchase engine
oil as we seemed to be losing it in small quantities, I went with the driver
10km to nearest petrol station. I returned and continued to refuel.
We then tried to locate internet and phone recharge - all shut. We found
a nice cafe and had a late lunch. Later we did some provisioning ready
for the onward journey tomorrow. I visited the Port
Authority office and took a photo of Judy on Fai Tira out of their office
window. It was the first really lovely warm night and just sitting on Fai
Tira watching the world go by was great. We sat on the inflated dinghy and just
watched the sunset and boats coming and going - all desperate to find a mooring
for the night. We logged on, booked Judy’s flights for Sat - which
means Zante to Amsterdam then on to Bristol to collect car and travel
home. We showered then strolled along the front and found a nice ice
cream parlour before bed at 1.00am. |
