Wednesday 19th May Fai Tira in
Moorea 17:29.92S 149:49.12W We left Papeete to upload fuel from the local
marina. This meant we had to pass by the end of the Papeete airport
runway which required Permission from the port authority. A plane landed just
after we had transited the threshold. We then went past the Hilton Hotel
which looked very nice. We sailed past a floating bar anchored on the reef and
then a group of Jet Skiers having a BBQ. The BBQ was standing in the sea. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We had a rock and rolley trip across to Moorea with
confused seas and the wind on the nose. So the good old Vetus had to perform
for 4 hours. As we approached the Island landscape just got more
spectacular. Cooks bay is a most stunning setting. We were
greeted by some passing canoeists. The panorama from inside Cooks Bay was very
impressive. Most of the BWR fleet was already there and anchored up
in 20 metres of water. We arrived and anchored just in time for Happy
Hour. On the left is me and my Tee Shirt Buddy Bill from Camomile. On the right is me with the lovely soon to have a
birthday Susan from Enchantress. Monday morning saw five of us going off for a dive
hence the wet suit. John and Jeremy (J) went for a walk to the next
village. The morning vista was even more beautiful than the
evening before. We set off for the dive site. There was Hans,
Mark, Brian, Ami and myself the following rib whilst Paul took the lead through
the coral heads on his rib. Some really friendly fish greeted us not to mention
more sharks. We met a really friendly Turtle and another large
Black Tip. Paul and Me Hans and Mark. We don’t seem to have a
picture of Brian. Our shark encounters were numerous. We saw a
couple of massive Lemon sharks 2 meters long and half a meter wide and when we
got back to the boat we were surrounded by 9 large black tips. In the afternoon we all went snorkelling. On the
