Fai Tira in Vigo 42:13.36N 8:45.02W

Fai Tira's doggers that hide so much stuff pilled up behind them.

We were woken last night by a howling gale.  We had decided not to anchor at the Island of Salvora (a good move given the wind strength and direction) but go to Aguino instead. Aguino has a difficult approach but an enclosed harbour and good holding for anchoring which was great as Fai Tira hummed and bussed all night in the force 6 winds.  We got out of our bunks at 8.30 and proceeded to get ready for a windy sail down to Vigo where we hoped to get the rig fixed.  We upped anchor and put in a reef and headed South.

Fai Tira was zooming along at 7 knots the sea was fairly flat as the NE wind was coming off the land.  We past some lovely islands and the miles disappeared quite quickly until about 1.00 pm when the wind just died and we had to rely on the trusty Vetus engine yet again.  The entrance into Vigo Ria was spectacular with rugged hills both sides but with the back drop of the city of Vigo in the distance.

We arrived at the designated marina and was met by the son of Alfrado Lagos, the 84 year rigger.  We were given Alfrado's contact details by Barry Hollis Dartmouth’s rigging specialist.  Alberto had a look at the broken stay shook his head and told us he would be back with his brother later.  They both came back and made some drawings and took measurements and told us they would do their best to sort us out.    Let’s hope so.

We will be visiting Vigo tomorrow.

Bye for now.

Pete and John.
