Tira heads back down the river. We
are now in a place called Vila Real De Santo Antonio. We are on a marina at the
mouth of the river. We had a lovely trip back down the river after a
early start to catch the outgoing tide. The sun came up over the hills to
give us spectacular views of the river and surrounding countryside. Vila
Real is a city designed on a grid system a bit like New York but without any
skyscrapers and it about a hundredth of the size, so it not like New York at
all. The original town was destroyed in the massive earthquake and tidal
wave of 1755. It has cobbled streets with wide avenues leading to open
squares. John
and Dee made the decission to fly back to England to see a close relation who
is very ill. We went into town had a bite to eat before we said our
goodbyes and they headed off to the railway station to catch a train to Faro
airport. I
had been invited back to Casa Mocho Pete and Linda’s gorgeous villa for
the night so a quick phone call to hem confirmed I could take my washing with
me. Thanks Linda. Sunday
saw me packing my bag of washing and a pair of swimmers and I set off on the
train to Faro. It was a lovely trip along the coast and only cost
€4.5 witch was great value. Pete,
Linda and their friend Simon were waiting for me in the station bar. We
then met up with Colin and Max and the kids and did a tour of Faro’s
designer shops. Luckily for Pete and Colin they were all shut J
so a tour of the old city within the castle was called for. No one was
about and we even had a problem finding a bar open!!! We
eventually headed off back to Casa Mocho via a supermarket. Straight into
the pool, it was great the water warm and the sun still hot. After the
dip the prawns that we previously purchased were served up with a nice dip and
white wine. Very nice and congenial until the wasps found us, hundreds of
the bloody things. Lots of thrashing of swatters saw a big pile of dead
ones on the floor. We retired to the house to escape the bussing
foray. We had a nice evening after the wasps had all gone to bed.
The children also went to bed followed shortly by the rest of us. Night
Night. Bye for
now. Pete, John
