Famous Bloody Mary’s Yacht Club on Bora Bora 16:31.65S 151:44.73W Bloody Mary’s is a
famous yacht club that over the years has been frequented by numerous
celebrities including Sting, Bill Gates, Buzz Aldrin, Ronnie Wood and
many more. Now they have had three more. On the notice board outside we
found that Jeremy had been here before but he couldn’t remember or admit
to it even though there was a photograph to prove it. BM’s started
in 1979 with 5 tables and is now huge, with its own private and very swish
wooden pontoon just across the road from where Pete and John are standing, so
they must be doing very well indeed, despite the 60% (so the locals say)
downturn in visitor/tourist volume. We all fell for the hype, despite ourselves,
and bought a T-shirt apiece... The place is amazing, it has
sand on the floor and a palm leaf roof. It is also very expensive, so the
Fai Tira crew, minus John who joined us later after starting preparations for
our evening meal, only went for beer and couple of Bloody Marys. Quite a
few of the rally boat crews did indulge in a nice evening meal
though. The men’s toilet was
quite interesting with a unique chain pull to flush the lavatory. There
also seemed to be a tradition of signing one dollar notes and pinning them on a
board. We didn’t have any US money with us so we stuck a Fai Tira
sticker up instead. Phyllis is back with the
main BWR contingent so Jeremy and I had to get to grips with her. Welcome back,
you have been missed! We are about 10,000 miles
from London. Well that’s what the sign says. On the right are two
white calved dolphins with quite a nice sunset behind. We’re unsure
whether or not the creature displaying its tongue is actually Bloody Mary
herself. John and Jeremy cycled round
the island today (only 20-odd miles this time, plus the odd diversion up ‘interesting’
dirt roads) whilst Pete went diving. More of these adventures in due
course. That’s all for now
folks we are off to the Cook Islands tomorrow which should take us four
days. |
