Fai Tira Blog Thursday 21th April Fai Tira anchored at Nuka Hiva
08:55.09S 140:05.87W Sorry about the
delay in posting our latest blog. As promised I
will be showing you lots of photos of our trip to Fata Hiva and our adventures
at the Bay of Virgins followed by our short stop at Tahuata injected with a bit
of text. This is the GPS
showing us that we only had 1000 miles to go to Fata Hiva. A significant point
in our journey of 3300.
The best bit of
our 24 day journey were the amazing sun sets and sunrises not to mention the
fabulous moon lit nights. This is the
wonderful Soda bread John made. The person sitting next to John is our
new crew member David.
This was our
first sighting of land after 23 days. Unfortunately it was at 6:00pm and we
didn’t have time to make landfall in the light. We decided to take
all the sails down and drift overnight until first light. Fai Tira rocked and
rolled without any sail cloth up and we all spent a very uncomfortable night.
The next morning
we were greeted by a fantastic sunrise over the island. We only had 5 miles to
go to the Bay of Virgins.
Our first views
of one of the most spectacular anchorages in the world, the Bay of
Virgins. Fai Tira
anchored at last. Lets get to shore me matey’s Wow, why is the
land going up and down? We made it 24 days at sea and still smiling. We dicided to
walk to a waterfal the crusing book recomended. On the way we bumped into
one of our fellow BWR skippers who hadn’t faired so well coming across
from Galapagos. His name if you
dont recognise him is Jeremy from Chsalonina. The waterfall
was not very spectacular because of the lack of water. But we did have
a dip in the cool water. In the picture with John and David is Jane a
crew member from Chsalonina. One of the local
children and his pet goat. We had a great time at his house with his
family giving us friut and drinks after our 2 hours trek up to the waterfall. That evening we
went to a local house and had meal together with the crew of Chsalonina.
On the menu was local kitten!!! The food was delicious especially the
fish marinated in lime and coconut milk. I was joking
about the kitten. . The next day we
headed off to Tahuata.
We arrived just as it got dark. We went for a
swim and John cooked the evening meal before we set off on an overnight sail
to Nuka Hiva arriving the next day at mid day. More blog
updates tomorrow. We need to get down to the bar now. Bye for now Pete, John and David. |
