Fai Tira on the
way to Reggio Calabria Italy. 38:07.63N 15:39.08E 12th
13th 14th July 2011 Judy left the boat and Becky my youngest daughter joined me in Zakynthos. I hadn’t seen her for nearly 2 years so it
was a great reunion. I asked her what she like to do and she said I need to swim in
warm water so we both went snorkelling. Doesn’t she look white. We then showered and headed into town for a look around the town and
booked out with the authorities before heading along the deserted main street
(it being Sunday evening) and headed for the same restaurant as Judy and I had
eaten at a couple of nights before. The deserted main square. That was until about 10pm when it
suddenly came to life with hundreds of people mainly in family groups. The next morning we dropped our moorings and headed to the south
of the Island with little or no wind. We passed by Banana beach and other
places Judy and I had explored by car previously. We arrived at the small Marathonis Island in the bay at the south
of Zakynthos.
This had a lovely beach and was in the turtle breading zone. None the less we
didn’t see one of these lovely creatures. We went swimming and Becky tried rowing and did extremely well.
We were also visited by a mobile store that sold everything from Champagne to
ice cream, so we bought a couple of Magnums. We rowed in the blue cave just before sunset. Becky produced her first on board meal which was great. We then
retired to bed ready for an not to early start the next day for Italy. The morning saw us leave Greek waters on a 3 day trip to Italy. The weather was quite calm for the first day but the wind
increased the second day unfortunately!! Yes you guessed it “on the nose”. There was lots of time to chill out before we had our second
evening meal prepared by Becky. Our first sighting of Italy at 05:30am only another 6 hours to go. We arrived in Reggio Calabria in strong winds
which made mooring a bit of a problem especially when Becky had never done it
before. We had two attempts and all went well on the second. The wind was
howling and still is. We leave for the Aeolian Islands tomorrow.
More on Reggio Calabria later. |
