Cheeky Little
Monkey’s. 27th August
2011 We
decided to climb the rock yesterday, but unlike last time I was here with John when
we cycled to the top, Baz and I took the easy option the cable car. The trip up was very nice a lot
easier than peddling. My excuse is that it is tooooo hot to cycle.
We weren’t too lazy though as we had opted to walk back down. These Barbury Apes were nicer
than the ones we encountered on Bali, where one stole Jeremy’s new
glasses ripped the plastic off of them and then threw them over the cliff!!! Looking North towards Spain and
South towards Morocco. If you look really close you can see FT moored
next to the runway. Cheeky little monkey’s.
The one on the right has a little baby. (not Baz!!!) The World War 2 tunnels.
Last time I was here I didn’t visit them so I decided I would like to
this time. There are 42 Kilometres of tunnels in the rock and as the rock
is only 7 kilometres and 1 wide long you can imagine what an extensive network they
are. In the war they accommodated 5000 troops had hospitals, kitchens and
living quarters. One tunnel had a train running in it, whilst others had
dispatch riders zooming through on motor bikes. Very interesting. We got a great view of the
airport from here. Today we leave for Faro.
