Crossing the line

Pearl of Persia

And so we come back to Antigua. The memories are still fresh of the
preparations we were making 15 months ago, getting ready to cross the
Caribbean Sea and on into the Pacific as our great adventure began. And now
we are back. Cheery calls of 'Welcome back' from the marina staff as they
helped us tie up to the dock reminded us that 'yes, we have been here
before'. We still have to return over the Atlantic, a long hard passage, but
for now we can celebrate and relax for 10 days, and enjoy reflecting on what
we have done. It has been a physical and at times an emotional challenge.
The remoteness, the exhaustion, the endless days at sea, night watches, the
constant sensation of having to be ready to deal with whatever happens,
knowing there is no one close by to help. But two things helped make it
possible. Our fantastic boat, our Oyster 54 'Pearl of Persia' which kept us
safe and made us feel safe, even when the weather was less than good, and
most of all Sussanne, who has been my rock, not just for this trip but since
we fell in love 35 years ago.
The photographs show the celebrations at the end of the rally.
Also the fantastic blue tanzanite precious stone pendent that Andrew gave me
as a memory for completing the circumnavigations with him.
The blog will continue as we cross the Atlantic back to Europe next week.
