Havingenjoyed our couple of weeks in Antigua,
primarily in the historic Nelson's Dockyard, we travelled 26 miles north to the
low lying island of Barbuda. The whole island was devastated in the last
Hurricaine with the whole population evacuated to the mainland of
Antigua.
Walking around the town of Codrington, named after
the English family that owned it as a slave worked plantation, the sad signs are
still everywhere. Clearly many families couldn't afford to return and rebuild
their homes. There was very little government help.
We did have the absolute pleasure of being taken
into the Frigate Bird colony by local guide George Jeffrey - and amazing sight
to get up close to the birds nesting and see the young up close. They don't know
to be frightened of humans so really don't care!
Photos to follow!
We are currently at sea, some 50 miles fromSt
Barts, en route to St Maarten for a bit of maintenance - the boat not us!
