Naming of Rigging19:52.7N 025:22.8W
Today we have the naming of rigging.
Yesterday, we had the scrubbing of decks.
And tomorrow morning, we shall have what to do after falling overboard.
But today, today we have the naming of rigging.
The vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean stretches out all around us
And today we have the naming of rigging.
This is a sheet. And this is a lazy sheet
(Which sounds like an idle Mexican to me)
Whose use you will learn,
When you are given your sheets.
And this is a barber haul, which in your case you have not got.
Whose use you will discover is for adjusting the angle of sheets.
The Trade Winds are behind us now, powering us steadily westwards.
Which in our case, until very recently, we had not got.
This is the halyard and that is a topping lift,
These are the in-haul, out-haul, up-haul and down-haul.
And this you can see is the furling line.
The purpose of this is for lining furlers, which in your case you have not got.
The flying fish skip gracefully away from our bow wave into the far distance
For today we have the naming of rigging.
With apologies to Henry Reed
Juniper now firmly established in the Trades, following rhumb line along the twentieth parallel with two thousand miles to go to St Lucia. Some of our number kept heading south to the Cape Verde Islands with various problems. Others are behaving erratically,
practising their jibing or making fishing their priority. Time for us to focus on more important things like the menu. What to do with a surfeit of avocados and why on earth did I forget the chipotle paste? Bill
