Had a bad experience in Mar Menor. Forecast was for no wind overnight so took the chance of an off beach anchorage. Big mistake. As it got dark the wind increased to 20kts direct onto the shore so we had to move.
Ended up doing blind pilotage ( navigation in the dark using radar and electronic charts) into a disused marina with old rusting piles and not a lot of room.
Spent a large part of the night awake making sure we didn’t drag the anchor. Shelter was fine but we were only 125ft from the piles on either side! Boat did do a full circle overnight around the anchor ( see photo - the dots are old piles) but was perfectly safe.
Set off early to Cartegena …
