Well had a very complicated day in St martin. Get
fuel when everything was shut, get to the carnival in the capital and back to be
under the 1630 bridge and buy fresh produce from closing shops!! All were
achieved with the exception of the carnival. It was obvious when we got to the
capitol that the roads would shut when the parade arrived so we would miss the
bridge, therefore had some retail therapy (Sally) and made a quick exit. Shame.
Did get one photo of Sal near a fantastic painted restaurant wall.
The 1630 bridge was key to our plans to get out of
the lagoon so we could leave for BVI's at 0200. Key to arriving in many of these
islands in the Carribbean is being able to see the reefs as you arrive as the
charts are not reliable. One of the areas of barbuda had a note "last surveyed
in 1846". So caution key with one person on the bow giving left right directions
in places. Virgin Gorda is 80 miles from St Martin or 13 hours of sailing hence
the early start.
Great sail today - a beam reach with gennaker in
14kts of wind, clear skies and hot.
Entered Virgin Gorda Sound passed Richard Branson's
island ( see pic). Don't think anyone in.
Off to clear immigration in the morning and then a
few days to chill.
