We made the short hop up the coast this morning
and anchored in Deshaies in time for breakfast. This is a deep and
well protected bay, the only problem being the Guadeloupe acts as a huge
windscoop and winds can funnel down into the bay at great speeds.
Sure enough, we are sitting in anchorage with more wind here
than out in the open sea. We have had gusts of 34 this
afternoon! Most odd.
As well as being the last anchorage on the coast
for yachts about to head north, Deshaies is primarily a fishing harbour. Ashore
we saw several fisherman setting up impromptu markets and selling their catches
from the back of their trucks. Hugh fish were being chopped up, weighed and
bagged.
In the distance we can see the island of Monserrat
smoking ominously. We will sail reasonably close on our passage to Antigua
tomorrow which should be quite stunning. No doubt a picture in tomorrow's
blog.
Today's pics are a happy snap of Sara, James and
John and also a pic for Nick.
Sorry Nick, the eggs simply had to
go.......!
