If there was ever a must visit Caribbean Island list, Dominica would be on it. Friendly people and the most amazingly beautiful rainforest based island.
We had a "boisterous " ( rough ) passage from Martinique North with seas of 2M and winds up to 30kts. We took a mooring at Sea Cats anchorage - his real name is Octavius but most of the guides/boat guys use nicknames.
The next day we set off on the adventure - first wax a fairly extreme hike. Up the mountain to a 275 ft waterfall which was pretty spectacular. 3 hour round trip and lots of mud!!
Next on to an amazing Canyon experience - put on a life jacket, enter the water and haul yourself up a tight canyon, using ropes attached to the walls, with fast flowing water against you. Get to the top, at the base of a waterfall and let go - what a wild ride back down. Health and Safety would shudder. Just us and a fast flowing rapid in a tight canyon!
Next stop was for lunch, with rum punch all round and then part of our group walked (clambered) up a boulder field to the base of another waterfall where there was also a hot spring.
A memorable day with an incredible guide
