The day’s run is taken at 06:30 on current ship’s time and this morning’s reading gave us 140 miles for the last 24 hours, that’s bang on target so we’re pleased with that.

Chris’s Watch …………..Just after 07:00 a ship was came over the horizon. It did not appear on our AIS system so they were called them up to see if their system was turned on. They claimed it was working so maybe it was just too far away in the current sea conditions. Our AIS aerial is rather low down.

Lorraine’s Watch………….Today the sailing has been just about perfect under a full genoa with 15 to 18 knots of wind from ESE, and a more comfortable sea than usual giving us an easier ride and allowing me to play about with the fishing lures. I tried 3 types and eventually later in the afternoon a shiny red and white 7 inch job was thrown in. This had been gouged by teeth a couple of days ago but with no catch so I tried a different hook. It wasn’t long before the obvious white plume of a catch showed up behind us, the line was taut and heavy. These big fish need two people for the landing and despatch, Chris was snoozing below so I gave the usual call, “fish, fish, fish", and we reeled in a tuna, large enough to feed us for a few days.

Chris’s watch…………Later in the evening I was on the radio talking to our friends on Three Ships and Tahina who started their passage to Rodriguez this morning. It was dark and Lorraine called out that she’d seen the light of another ship….but it gradually rose in the sky to become a star. We do not expect to see much traffic as we are in a rather remote stretch of sea. We think the earlier ship was a bulk carrier off to load iron ore in Australia.
