We anchored in Braye Harbour at Alderney as
all the buoys were already taken. We had noticed boats rolling like pigs as we
anchored and soon we were joining them in the relentless sway. The jetty,
where supply boats and ferries land, is undergoing major works, supposed to be
finished in November although it didn't look much different to when we were here
last autumn. It has caused great upheaval to the quay which is full of
Portakabins and dust. Going ashore to see the island, it all seemed a bit
run down compared to the past and especially in 2000 when we came here for the
eclipse, perhaps the economic downturn is biting and the work on the jetty is
having an impact. However, we went to The Chippy up the road from the harbour
and had some of the best fish and chips we have ever had, the place was bursting
at the seams.
Back to the boat to spend a restless night, the
worst we have had for some time, we really like Alderney but it was just too
swelly.
