After getting a forecast which favoured a quick hop over the 130 nm to Horta but nothing else we decided to go for it. If only to say that we had been to Horta and to have something else in the Azores to compare Flores with.

We set off at 07 30 on 5 July and after a slow start in the wind shadow of Flores we picked up the forecast northerly/northwesterly and sped along at a reasonable 4/5 kts. The sea state was surprisingly swelly considering the light winds but this calmed down in the afternoon and we settled in for a pleasant evening and night sail.

The wind continued to blow us along at a good rate throughout the night and early morning such we were off Faial by 09 00 on 6 July. Horta marina was full as expected so we dropped our hook in the bay and one more time we have to blow up the duck in order to get ashore.

The weather is overcast but we see a green island, much gentler contours than Flores rising up to a single peak lost to us in the cloud at the moment.
