The Travels of Running Tide

Unforunately we don't appear to have any reliable tide data for around here so as a consequence we touched bottom at our anchorage last night. It was at low tide so after a little concern and sitting on deck for an hour all was well, no damage done.

It set off in overcast skies with a little bit of wind to give us a lift in the right direction. Slowly the strength built up to healthy F4 and meant that our target of Carmarinas was achievable. However, by the time it was necessary to enter Carmarinas the wind was F5 and we were screaming along, so we decided to stay out and head for Finisterre. We made Finisterre but now the wind was F6 and occasional consistent F7. We were down to a single head sail by now and thinking about the stom jib. RT and Monica were outstanding in the blow. As we approached the Finisterre headland we switched on the engine to enter the bay into the teeth of the now F6. We were making about 1.5kn and with about 4Nm to run decided to miss out an overnight anchorage and press on. We now have a now comfortable F4/5 on the tail doing 5/6kn with a single head sail and rapidly on our way south.
