Position at 12.00 hrs on 1 June is 29:56.1N  73:21.0W and we have 472 nm to run to Bermuda so we did about 70 nm over the day.

Question: Pat has asked what a nautical mile is compared to a land mile (statute mile). Come on own up how many others are not quite sure. Yachties use nm because it is equal to one minute of a degree of latitude which is convenient when using charts, and 1knot is 1nm/hour,  so having completely confused you I can say that a nm is 15% greater than a statute mile. So translating the above we have 543 miles to go and we did 81 miles over the day.

31 May - Just when it was safe to go into the water we get hit by 25 to 28 kt winds, one reef, the then two reefs in the main half a head sail. It came from nowhere associated with a few clouds and has been with us all night and now but abating. Initially we were headed and drive off course by about 60 degrees. We tacked but then tacked back. For several hours we were pushed off course but slowly the wind has come around and we are only 20 degrees off track now.

1 June – the sun is shining the wind is blowing and as ever not exactly were we want to go
