The Travels of Running Tide

Sorry about the long gaps between communications. We don’t have satellite
comms at the moment and getting to internet facilities whilst we are travelling
is intermittent.
Ponce is a pleasant town and a very agreeable port area. We were anchored
up just off the marina. Cheaper and we can use all of the facilities for a small
sum.
So we sorted ourselves out. Washing, shopping and sight seeing around the
town.
The wind conditions have been variable for the last few days so our plans
for our departure were unclear. Plan A was to head for the south west tip of
Puerto Rico and anchor up at Cabo Roco before heading off across the Mona
Channel to Dominican Republic (DR). We motored a good portion of the to Cabo
Roca and then the wind picked up. At that moment it was plan B, that is continue
to DR without a stop over. That didn’t last long and plan A was enacted. In fact
we spent a very pleasant on a remote anchorage in the shadow of the headland
before setting off on the 130 mile crossing to DR. The Mona Channel has a bit
of reputation for bad weather but it was kind to us and we managed to sail
in reasonable winds all the way across and into Casa de Campo in DR. The
crossing took about 26 hours.
