Nevis is one of our favourite island, small and beautiful. After sorting C&I in St Kitts we headed for Mosquito Bay in the north of the Island. St Kitts its larger neighbour attracts all the cruise ships and so mass tourism does not affect Nevis. The beach bar at Mosquito Bay attract an eclectic bunch of tourist and old soaks who have swallowed the hook and put down some sort of roots.

A short hop across to St Kitts sees us now in Basseterre, Port Zante Marine to be exact. The first time we have been tied up to dry land for a month. So time to bring on water and charge up the batteries with shore power. In fact we have faired well for power using only Vinden our wind power generator and the petrol gene just once.

Norm and I had done the island tour last year so just Pat and I set off yesterday to see  Romney Manor (an old sugar plantation house) and Brimstone Hill Fort. The Fort is UNESCO World Heritage site. Its very impressive 17/18th century military architecture built with slave labour by the British and is perched on an 800ft volcanic plug.

We are now moving on to Saba, its a Dutch island and an isolated rock. Last year we couldn’t land due to the weather so we will try again. We are now moving out of the East Caribbean dollar region into the US dollar areas. Last year we found that the character of the Caribbean changed from here on from the calypso/reggae happy go lucky mentality to a much more formal and organised feel.
