20/1 - We are still in the BVI, playground of the rich and famous and not
so famous. Beautiful visas, beaches, marinas, weather, etc, but I’m sorry
totally soulless. Yesterday we were on Norman Island, we couldn’t resist it.
Famous for pirates, buried treasure and Robert Louis Stevenson and the
inspiration for the book Treasure Island. Last night we were anchored up in
Soper’s Hole back on Tortola. Norman headed off to US VI by ferry to sort out
his US visa , he was back within 2/3 hours with his passport duly stamped up
providing him with the right to be resident in US for up to 3 months.

21/4 - We have crossed from the Island of Tortola to Jost van Dyke Island
and and are tied to a mooring buoy in Great Harbour. We have had a nice salad
lunch and will be hitting the beach in the next few minutes. Foxy’s Restaurant
is ashore, quite characterful we understand so we may pop in for late afternoon
beverage. Jost van Dyke was charming, laid back, stunning and undeveloped.
22/4 We resisted the temptation to stay another day and headed of to Puerto
Rico missing out the US Virgin Islands completely. We were aiming for the Island
of Culebra which is just east of the main island of Puerto Rico. Instead we
ended up anchoring up in a lovely bay in the north of Isla Culebrita. We hoped
the C&I authorities wouldn’t find out as the US authorities police their
borders like tigers. We managed to brave the surf and got ashore for a walk up
to the light house. The island is a nature reserve the beach a hatchery for
turtles. We didn’t see any. We had the whole bay to ourselves.
23/4 – Early morning saw us setting off for the main island of Culebra just
2/3 miles away and anchoring off the quay of the main town Dewey. We hired a car
and headed off for the day, high on the list was Playa de Flamenco, rated one of
the best beaches in the World by Lonely Planet. We weren’t disappointed. Next I
went snorkelling, the coral and fish were a disappointment but we did see three
sizeable turtles.
