The Travels of Running Tide

Progress to MoBay has been slow though enjoyable. The wind hasn’t really got up until about 10.00 so rather than try to sail through the night we have made a couple of touch and goes. The first one in Oracabessa Bay, home of Ian Fleming and the location of James Bond beach and Discovery Bay where we are now as I write. Last night we took a local bus to Falmouth a few miles west just to see what it looked like. It probably wasn’t worth the effort but we had a good chat to our rastaman driver. Who took us there gave us a tour of Falmouth and bought us back.

Today is following the pattern of others. Its 08 30 and not a breath of wind. However by 10 00 it will blow and we will easily finish off the last 27nm to MoBay. Well in reality it was slow progress using the engine for the last hour to finish off. We finally anchored off MoBay Yacht Club at about 18 30. The YC is very well set up with very nice showers, swimming pool, billiard room and a restaurant which serves up a superb fish and chips according to Norm who tucked into them last night.

The MegaMart is about 5 minutes away so we will be stocking up before heading off to Cuba. Not so much for the crossing which should be about 2 days but for survival in Cuba. There is nothing to buy so we are led to believe. Anyway nothing on board will go to waste. Sell by and use by dates don’t mean a thing to us. If it doesn’t look or smell off or is not covered in mould we eat it.
