The Travels of Running Tide

Position at 12.00 hrs on 5 June is 31:02.9N  067:34.2W and we have 170 nm to run to Bermuda so we did about 71 nm over the day.

June 4 – Its been a quiet day at the office. Its midday and we are going no where at the moment. We are gainfully trying to sail but it is hopeless.

Its looks as if Pike has left us unless he has succumbed in the cabin and we haven’t found him. The last time we saw him he seemed a bit listless. Let’s hope that he is on his way somewhere .

Finally it was 21 00 when the wind finally started to blow again. This time a reach across the starboard beam.  This gave us a productive night but expired at first light.

5 June - We struggled on for another few hours hoping that the forecast wind from the south would produce results. Well I’m pleased to say that it has and we are literally flying along on a beam reach at up to 5.2kts. If this follows forecast this wind is due to last for a few days which could/may/hope see us to Bermuda.

Our lunchtime eating regime has gone to pot, normally we have breakfast of cornflakes or Weetabix for breakfast, grapefruit if we have got it, sandwiches or something like that for lunch and a meat and two veg (read P&Os) for us tea. The main reason this lack of structure for me is at  least, as Norm says he will eat anything, is that the US bread we have is awful. The outcome is that we end up grazing throughout the day and living off biscuits, cerk and crisps. So I decided we would bake our own bread just back in the days of the east to west crossing. We still have the ingredients so I will report soon on the outcome.*
