20/08/2012 Thought for the day....Worse things happen at
sea!!
Well there was a lot went on since the last
yesterday I’ll try and put them in some form of
chronological order but don’t sue me if its not quite
right!
It wasn’t a bad start to the
day, lovely sailing flats seas, light airs,
nice and sunny, so i decided to have my bucket
shower in the south Pacific, well i can tell you the first bucket of water left
two lumps in my throat! after that the next two or three didn’t seem as bad my
you I could of just been in
shock..lol
At 2320 last night my search
for the NW winds was over and I tacked over and started to head for a better
course for Vanuatu. Which was a relief because we had gone some 45 nms off
course to find them. We were 20 degrees off course but a lot closer to our
mark than on the other tack. At the moment we are on a direct course to
Port Vila, light winds, full sail with the engine ticking over and making
between 6 & 7.5 knots.
I was happy with my tactical
move, one that its working out two that the last time i came up here it did the
same.
However inside hind Sight
things were different the electrical system had a little moment and fried the
12v
DC outlet and my laptop 12v charger not sure after the fact there seems to be no
rhyme or reason but over night and earlier today i spent quite a few hours
sorted it out.
Firstly I pulled the switch
board out to change the fuse....hmmm....we had none, so I found another fuse
holder that I did have fuses for and fitted that so the 12v outlet was working,
that still didn’t solve the problem of the PC being charged up. Chris the owner
had put an invertor on board but it was fitted so I used what we had wire wised
using doubled up wires to take the power to the invertor, I managed to find a
suitable car fuse, than went about trying to see how i could use it given that i
didn’t have an holder for it. I got a length of wire and two lucar connectors
and pushed the fuse into those as a jury rigged fuse holder and the rest as they
say is history. The invertor is working albeit that I had to cut the socket off
my 240 v pc lead and fitted the one supplied with the invertor and
Voila! So as they say everything is
normal in the asylum! what that is, I’ve never figured it
out. Regards
