18/08/2012 Very light winds flat
glass like ocean plenty of sun during the day, it was almost perfect if you did
not have a reasonable amount of urgency on getting to your destination. So we
all took the opportunity of cleaning in inside of Hind Sight up and trying to
make a few things better. There was however one surprize we had which i
guess that had been niggling at the back of our minds since we arrived at
Marsden point marina, which was why was the fuel gauge going down so quick
considering that we weren’t using hard barely ticking over really? Well today we
figured it out, I was suspicious so I got a tape measure and worked out the
volume of the tank, then got Quentin to check it and as it turns out instead of
the advertised 150 litre tank it’s only 75 litres!!! In some ways it was a load
off our minds and in others i.e the fact that we have only half the amount of
diesel we thought we had it wasn’t.
Given the fickle winds
ahead it would have been nice to have a little in the bank, but TIS (this is
sailing!!) so given the forecast we are hoping to get a couple of good days
sailing in before we hit the light airs and that should see us into Port
Vila.
At the moment it seems as
though the weather forecast is panning out and we are playing our get out of
jail free card!! fingers crossed. On a light note, after
todays clean up inside Hind sight she is looking a lot nicer and is really
showing off how good she really is. Anyhow as I'm on watch and am only typing
this because I’m waiting for the kettle to boil and it has I’ll finish this in
the AM! We now are heading in a north
westerly direction trying to hook up with the westerly winds which
are forecast to be with us some time
after midnight then they are swinging south so we should be able to make good
progress towards Port Vila.
Diesel and water are running low,
more so diesel than water, will be ok and diesel well we will just take a little
longer and be a little smellier and on that not very pleasant thought I’m going
to leave you.
