28/08/2012 Just to introduce the crew for this delivery
of SY Hind Sight, Quentin Dagger, Shawn Baker and
Myself. We set out from Auckland
around 1050 yesterday and were motor sailing up the coast nicely hand steering
as we go to grips with the
Autopilot. We all tried in vain to
concur it and that effort was all in vain as i discovered to find when I took it
apart only to find that the flux gate compass had broken. This explained why
when the steering seemed to be going well the autopilot would do a crazy Ivan
and steer radically either to port or starboard, but this all couldn't have
happed in the most in opportune moment, right in plane view of An NZ Navy vessel
heading in the same general direction albeit in a straight line......show
offs!!! So today we have being
running around to source a new system and a Fitter so that we can hopefully be
on our way tomorrow.
WE have had other niggling problems
with Hind Sight and fortunately have sorted most of them out,
Namely:- We now have all but the cabin
light working, the shower sump pump has been cleared out and is now
draining happily, the navigation lights have had bulbs replaced and have
been relabelled on the switch board to make it more obvious what they are
actually doing, we checked the engine oil and water have been check and were ok,
we got the oven to work as it was proving a little uncooperative last night.
Funnily enough it started without any issues this morning.......*******
thing.
The U bolts holding the diving
platform up hadn’t been bolted so one of them has been replaced and bolted
with nyloc nuts the 2nd is awaiting an replacement as it escaped whilst I was
leaning off the back of the Transom trying to refit
it!!
Apart from that we are having a
pleasant sunny day at Marsden Cove, here’s hoping tomorrow is less
eventful. Mark, Quentin &
