Coral Sea
We have been sailing in the Coral Sea for a couple of days now, although I
don’t consider us to have crossed the Pacific Ocean until we arrive in Cairns.
We have today arrived over the Queensland Plate, so tectonically speaking we
have made it. In reality we are all hoping another couple of days at this speed,
seven knots, will see us arriving at the Grafton Passage through the Great
Barrier Reef and then around Green Island and Arlington Reef, to make our
approach to Cairns and Marlin Marina.
Ship Ahoy
We are seeing ships each night now, last night we all saw ships passing
during our different watches. Good exprience for night sailing. We speculate
that they are probably going to and from NSW collecting coal or iron ore for
China. David believes that Australia has a short term policy of selling all its
natural resources, which is funding the high standard of living they all enjoy.
I wonder if this will change in my lifetime?
