We set off at 0530 for our return to Wicor Marine. Disappointingly the wind was again almost non-existent and a day’s motor-sailing lay ahead. We watched closely for shipping. Absolutely essential as some ferries and cargo ships travel at huge speeds when compared to us and despite every good intension sometimes collisions happen. We did have an intermittent fault that occurred with our AIS / VHF aerial causing us to watch all the more closely for shipping. Mid-Channel we were visited briefly by dolphins. We spent the rest of the journey removing split planks from the cockpit to replace and tidying, making sure all was ready to get home. As we approached the Isle of Wight a little wind enabled us to sail to Portsmouth Harbour entrance, where we hoisted the yellow ‘Q’ flag, I called customs and got clearance to arrive at our home port. We moored up at our pontoon at about 2000. A great time had been had by all. I have every confidence in both Wandering Dream and my choice of crew.
