I was in search of the cause of our weak signal on the SSB Radio yesterday morning, no one could hear us. Eventually, I found a bad connection under the chart table, with Ken’s help we reconnected. David was doing his best at the wheel to keep us stable while we did the repair. We are now operating at full signal strength – mat last! We even relayed some messages for other yachts on the net who couldn’t get through to the Galapagos “Mother Ship” for that day. One yacht broke a chain plate on its starboard shroud during the night. They have decided to limp at 4 knots to The Marquesas as returning to the Galapagos with that shroud to windward would be impossible. They are currently a day behind us, but will probably arrive there a week behind us.

 

105 Degrees Longitude

We passed that yesterday and our clock ahs moved back an hour. I had the somewhat dubious privilege of the extra hour shift – Skipper’s Perk? That makes us eight hours behind UK Summer Time.

Fresh bread now eaten or gone mouldy and thrown overboard, pitta bread also consumed, we are now down to wraps. So to call the changes we are baking today. Fortunately for us, Marisa arrived with forty sachets of yeast – No simple recipes arrived for Soda Bread (still needed please) and no par-baked bread was available at either Panama of Galapagos.So in true baker fashion, I was up before sunrise and kneading the dough.
