So hot, finding it hard to sleep! It's not so bad during the day and on watch up on deck but it is extremely bad down below.
Making lunch is also hard work, usually leaving me dripping and swearing at the waves scattering cooking implements and ingredients all over the place... you would think that after so many years we would have gotten used to it... and we have, it is miles better, you should have seen the mess we made in the galley at the beginning!!! We have learnt not to leave the cupboards open, not even for a second... lest you want the full content to spring out. We have learnt to secure the lid of the fridge open, so it does not fall on your head as you dive in to retrieve something from it. We have learn not to cook a quiche in rolly conditions or you will find egg mixture splashed all over the inside of the oven for months to come. We have learnt to stand cups of coffee in a box in the sink to fill with hot water, to avoid the cups skittering across the work surface sploshing hot liquid everywhere... and i could go on and on... but it still catches you out in the most beautiful way... today was spreading mashed avocado, with a soupçon of Modena vinaiger, a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of few red chilly flakes, onto the teak in the cockpit. The plate on which the slices of toasts spread with the avocado made it safely up on deck but then a moment of inattention brought the whole thing down... a great big wave caught us and the plate actually jumped into the air, the toasts somersaulted out of it and landed on the teak and on the avocado side, obviously! We both stood there mesmerized by the scene of our starters doing a trick worthy of the Cirque du Soleil, but without the music accompaniment... we nearly clapped it was so expertly accomplished! We could have waved little paddles with big no 10 on them for artistic merits, like they used to do in Jeux sans Frontieres! The green goo was everywhere, the toasts still pirouetting along the teak seat, until we got out of our trance and both reached out to catch them still skittering in full flow, because the waves never ever stop! We got them in the end, the toast came willingly back to the plate but the green goo had to be coaxed back on the toasts... green goo won the battle, we ended up covered in it! I leave you to imagine the state of the wood after this little escapade... fortunately, I hear that avocado and olive oil is good for the skin and apparently teak wood!
Apart from the waves scattering our lunch, we had a beautiful day sail, steady wind, and wall to wall sunshine! And we saw a white bird... probably checking out our lunch!
