Morning,

well we finally left Tonga heading for Minerva reef and then when a suitable weather window occurs, onto NZ. Last night was slightly lumpy, not really horrible, just enough to remind us that it is not downwind sailing now, mainly upwind. The first night at sea after a long period of sailing in daylight is always a bit odd as you get back into the rhythm of watches, cooking while leaning over etc. We have one boat about 5 miles off our starboard quarter (back right hand side for those not into the lingo!) and because it is 3 feet longer than us we are trying not to let it pass us (you can take sailors out of the racing, but not necessarily the racing out of the sailors!) only one slightly amusing thing, in the middle of the ocean, i know there is not land for hundreds of miles in any direction, but i saw a cloud bank last night in the dark which was so solid i had to check the chart.....the old mind games playing up when you are all alone in the dark.
