we are safely tucked up in Neiafu harbour in Tonga's Vava'u island group, this following as predicted a night mincing around outside the harbour approach which is a bit like a fiord (with apologies to our Norwegian friends) but without the height of mountains. There were few navigation marks and the track on the chart has us going over a lot of land so the charts were out. glad we did not try it on a moonless night last night! Things are laid back here but we have managed to do customs, immigration harbour dues and quarantine stuff just need to go back tomorrow to clear medically. However Tonga has elected to be on the other side of the international date line so we lost a day but am now ahead of you all in time rther than behind so i will see the sun before you all naanaa naanaa!
there were plenty of friends already here who greeted us which added to the Tongan welcome of a brass band.....they were there for a cruise ship but we can pretend they were for us!
