Readers might be confused about the ref to wings: Imagine 2 genoa attached and going up the forestay, when the wind
is from behind the 2 genoas open up, like a goose wing. it's brilliant but
we are not there yet, wind not aft enough, so both are flying on the same
side for now.
Passed Christmas Island earlier today. Manuela Would have quite liked to go and have
a look, but Ian reckoned that she would have been very disappointed... This
is not Mr & Mrs Santa Claus secret hide away, where they escape the rigors
of the North Pole's winter after a job well done and grab some R&R on the
white beaches of Xmas Island. The Clauses do not decamp there with all their
entourage of Elves, reindeers and other little helpers after months of
wrapping presents and the mad dash of Xmas eve! The palm trees are not
festooned with fairy lights, the coconuts are not painted gaudy colours, and
Mrs Santa is not seen on the beach lounger sipping long island ice tea in a
red and green bikini, whilst watching Mr Claus in his red and green trunks
cavorting in the waves, teaching the reindeers to swim... No Christmas music
blaring out from loud speakers, no Christmas turkeys to be seen gallivanting
gaily, without a care in the world.... no Christmas cake ... no mince pies,
no Christmas pudding, no Christmas crackers, paper crowns and silly jokes...
And the houses are not made of gingerbread... Guess Ian is right ... Manuela would
have been disappointed, glad we didn't stop!
