well this is a little frustrating as the wind has eased quite a bit and it
looks like we will have at least 24 hrs like this just trying to keep the
boat moving even if it is not in the right direction. I gather that many of
the people we left in Minerva have up anchor and are on their way now as
there is forecast a low pressure system looming off the west coast of NZ
which might give adverse and possibly robust winds as we all get near NZ.
One solution would be to motor for a it to try and beat the system, however
we do not have fuel capacity to do a lot of that and also we have found an
oil leak when the engine is running so i would prefer not to use up all my
spare oil and use the engine for manoeuvring at the far end. It is
interesting the mind-set as you ponder what is the best thing to
do....remember all of this reasoning is based on a weather forecast and so
all the drivers could change! There is a lot of sharing of info via email as
those with more sophisticated satellite systems who can do more research
help those with more modest means. We are dipping into this pool but also
have some shore friends who are feeding us some info as to possible
developments.
