After an incredibly uncomfortable night moral is running low on board and we're all wondering what on earth we're doing here. This is really not enjoyable and I think we can all think of places we would rather be at the minute than here.

The wind is right on the nose and as we hit the waves they almost stop the boat dead, we're averaging speeds of around 3 knots even though we're motoring hard with the engine. We decided to head 10 degrees further north to make the motion a bit more comfortable, so that we wouldn't be quite so hard on the waves. We were managing to motor sail with the main out and the self-tacker which we had hoisted earlier in the day in place of the lightweight headsail. The self-tacker can get that little bit closer to wind than the genoa so at least that was working in our favour.

As we headed north we came across Fai Tira who were heading south doing the same as what we were doing. Their thoughts were to head down to where Blue Magic were this morning as they were reporting winds from the north west. As we were more than likely heading further into the low pressure system as we made our way north we decided to do a u-turn and go south with Fai Tira, Sol Maria followed suit some 6 miles behind as well.

It was only after we did some number crunching and really thought about what we were doing that we decided it would be best to just make our way along the rhumb line straight towards Galle. Had we been sailing down to Blue Magic's position then that'd be a different matter but we weren't we were motoring. So instead of motoring in completely the wrong direction to try and find wind that may or may not be there we all decided it'd be best to just head straight for our destination.
