Friday 4th December

What a day!

We started the day off with company, a yacht called Amanzi a 61 footer who was approaching from behind and slowly creeping up on us. He'd passed one of the other rally yachts yesterday rather close so they'd had a chat on VHF. There's just a skipper and one crew member on board heading for Antigua, then they're taking her to the British Virgin Islands for the owner. They've stayed by our side all day pretty much with the distance between us slowly getting greater as he seems to be heading further south for some reason. Anyway, it's been nice knowing there is a yacht only a few miles away!

We're close now! We've 125 miles to go and by 10 am we expect to break the 100 mark. There are welcome drinks and dinner at a restaurant in the harbour tomorrow for the boats who'll have made it in which we're hoping to make. But the customs office closes at 4.00 pm and if we arrive after that we'll have to wait until the morning until will can be checked in by customs. Meaning we'll be in quarantine for the night and won't be able to get off the boat until we're cleared. Can you imagine, so close yet so far! We'll be able to smell the rum punch!

The winds had died down slightly earlier but we've had countless number of squalls come through which now seem to be keeping the winds up high and in the 20's. One squall earlier brought winds of 38 knots! So we're hoping it'll keep up and we'll have a good run in!
