Tonga grew on us! We had a fantastic time and really could have done with more time to explore all the islands within the Vava'u group but unfortunately we have a schedule to keep and we just can't do everything!

We had one more day and night back in Refuge Harbour, Neiafu, before we left for Fiji. I had signed up to do an Indian cooking class at the Crow's Nest Cafe along with a few others from the rally. You then had the option of going along during the evening to eat the curry we'd helped to make. We decided to head to the yacht club though to do a bit of socialising after the Friday afternoon yacht race. Earlier in the week Amy had somehow been introduced to a man, Alistair, who used to live on Gility Avenue but he moved to Tonga 5 years ago. For those of you who don't know, Gility Avenue is around a mile away from our old house and less than a quarter of a mile from where Paul grew up and where his parents still live. The world keeps getting smaller! Anyway, we spent the evening chatting to Alistair who owns a dive shop in Neiafu and a young man called Pete who works with him. After a few beers we moved on to 'The Dancing Rooster' for a spot of dinner - the meal was fantastic, we can't believe we discovered it on our last night! The rooster also happened to be home to a karaoke bar just below the restaurant where we knew Alistair would be celebrating his birthday so we popped down for one drink. The bar wasn't your normal karaoke bar, it was great, so one drink turned into a couple and we ended up leaving Amy behind as we headed home for some sleep.

The next day morning we attended the Fiji briefing held by Richard, carried out some last minute provisioning and eventually got on our way at around 14.00. Fiji is 450 miles away from Tonga so it should take us 3-4 days to get there.
